At Blue Box Storage, we keep things simple. We offer secure container storage in two sizes:
A 10ft container is ideal if you’re storing a smaller volume of items or want to keep costs tight without sacrificing space.
It’s commonly used for:
A 20ft container gives you significantly more room and flexibility.
It’s a better fit if you’re dealing with larger volumes or bulkier items.
It’s commonly used for:
All of our units are 10ft wide and 8ft tall, giving you plenty of usable space whichever option you choose.

Once you know what size storage unit you need, the next step is making sure you use that space properly. A well-packed container can comfortably hold far more than people expect, while a poorly organised one can fill up quickly and become difficult to use.
Start by boxing as much as you can. Loose items take up more room and are harder to stack safely. Strong, uniform boxes make it easier to build stable stacks and maximise the full height of the container.
Think about how often you’ll need access. If you’re likely to visit regularly, keep frequently used items near the front and leave a small walkway if possible. It might feel like you’re sacrificing space, but it makes a big difference day to day.
Heavier items should always go at the bottom, with lighter boxes stacked on top. This keeps everything secure and prevents damage over time. If you’re storing furniture, use the vertical space. Standing items like mattresses or sofas on their end can free up a surprising amount of room.
If you’re using shelving or racking, you’ll naturally create a more organised setup, especially for business storage or tools. This can make a smaller unit go further and keep everything easier to manage.
The size recommendation from the "What size storage do I need?" quiz gives you a solid starting point. Packing and organising it properly is what makes that space work for you.
