An Increase in Self Storage
Development in Doncaster, South Yorkshire keeps on coming with a rise of high-end Cinemas, theatres, and the popularity of History and Culture within the Town, even with Self-Storage as well. However, some residents are yet to use the facilities.
The Increase of Self-Storage units are popping up like wildfire in South Yorkshire, and in Doncaster its no exception. In particular, a rise of large Self-Storage units has been seen arriving at the site of Blue Box Storage – Doncaster Self-Storage, and some residents are excited about the prospect of having more Self-Storage units to be used, especially with the Brexit Uncertainty to affect major local businesses and homeowners in the Doncaster and South Yorkshire region.
In the 10-mile stretch from Doncaster Town Centre to Blue Box Storage in Kirk Sandal, on the outskirts of Doncaster, there has been 2 major containers arrive on site. With those two, more have been announced to arrive.
Bryan Merrett of Blue Box Storage Doncaster had this to say:
“The Demand is certainly there for more Self-Storage Units. Bringing in more containers far outweighs the supply for Self-Storage in Doncaster and Yorkshire.”
Why are Self-Storage Units So Hot in Doncaster right now?
According to some recent data, Blue Box Storage – Doncaster Self-Storage has an approximately 9.02 square space of Self-Storage per person, which exceeds the national average of about 6.5 square feet of Self-Storage space per person.
“Unlike other areas of South Yorkshire, we don’t have basements or other areas to store items that have been accumulated over the years,” said Bryan Merrett, owner of Blue Box Storage, in an emailed statement. “Moreover, other Self-Storage components such as open storage for boats and caravans are in high demand as most of the communities that we have developed over the past few decades are deed restricted with no options for this type of Self-Storage.”
“These containers are all small with limited storage,” Bryan Merrett said. “Twenty years ago, everyone had a ‘rubbish drawer’ in their house. It now seems as if everyone has a clutter container in a Self-Storage facility.” He laughs.
South Yorkshire leads to pushback on Self-Storage Containers
What a load of Sh**! Donna Fiala, has been outspoken in her opposition to self-storage facilities around the world for years. She had this to say:
“The storage units are buying up the prime property right along U.S. 41, and the thing is we need places to shop,” she said. “We need restaurants. We need services for the community, and a storage unit provides no services for the community whatsoever.”
Fiala wants entities that can employ more Doncaster residents, as some Self-Storage facilities employ less than a handful of workers. She would also like to see more options for locals and visitors to pay for food, clothes and entertainment along the Yorkshire Region. The moratorium, however, was never passed. Instead, the Board approved a motion that directed a “corridor study” be pursued for the area, which was completed by Johnson Engineering and accepted by the board in April 2018.
